WASHINGTON - A clerk's mistake could mean a budget bill
President Bush signed isn't technically law, but congressional Republicans said again Wednesday they have no plans to try to fix the problem.
Even though Alabama attorney Jim Zeigler has filed a lawsuit charging the $39 billion deficit-cutting legislation Bush signed is unconstitutional because the House and Senate failed to pass identical versions, House GOP leaders insist there's no problem.
"I believe that it's law," said House Majority Whip Roy Blunt, R-Mo.
Not so, says Zeigler, a Republican activist.
"An eighth-grader in civics class knows that a bill cannot become law unless the identical bill passes the House and Senate and is signed by the president," Zeigler said.
Okay as usual these days the guys in Congress are having a little bit of trouble reading the Constitution. Just because you meant to pass the same bill doesn't mean you did.
If the Supreme Court even has to hear this one as it should not get out of the Federal Court in Mobile, AL(read the article) everyone should be beyond upset. You know, because Congress is actually considering violating the Constitution. Maybe when they figure this out they can go back and fix their other violation. The one that granted President Bush wartime powers but Congress never declared war.

i like this statement- let's look at what is happening with the horse slaughter ban- oh, the USDA has decided that they will accept fee-for-service money from the 3 foreign slaughterhouses in America that carve up our horses for oversea gourmands, despite the fact that there was an overwhelming opposition to this back on September 20? of 2005 in which the Senate voted 69-28 and the House voted 269-158 to temporarily stop horse slaughter. I thought the people had spoken....
check out HSUS.org for more info, and the Federal Meat Inspection Act- especially sections 622 and 623, where it talks about "bribery" and game animals. (horses aren't game animals, by the way)
even if you don't care about horses, you should care that some foreign jackasses are trying to persuade our government agencies to do what they want and totally ignore what it's own people have asked for. i'm glad the animal groups are taking the USDA to court over this. it's bullshit that they would take money and use a "loophole" to avoid carrying out a Congressional mandate. it's not like our government isn't fucked up enough as it is. we don't need this as more proof to the rest of the world.
First of all let me on behalf of Adam and Michael kiss your feet. A reader! Yeah!
If that pisses you off, read this. We are now selling US highways and sea ports to foreign companies. I am no xenophobe but I am concerned by this.
I hate to burst your bubble Sean, but "khemo" has been stopping by for a while.
I believe "khemo" is Holly's (Adam's wife) cousin.
In other words, we don't have many readers.
It's OK, we like to do it so we continue on.
but i haven't been by in awhile!
i'll try to make up for it.
and i am holly's cousin.
thanks for noticing me.
holy crap- i read the one about the toll road- i never understood those anyway- i will refuse to drive on it if i am ever that way- i read as far as "ties to the sept 11 hijackers", and that is enough for me. i'm moving someplace cheap and warm.
I hear Bali is nice.
Vietnam is cheap and warm. Though communist I am sure American money spends nice there. Plus, you can probably buy Calvin Klein etc out the back door of the sweatshop at cut rate prices.
i can't get into the fish heads and rice...plus with the child sex trade- my daughter may be safe now at the ripe old age of 13, but i'm still leery.
